22 for 22: TOTS Barnes

22 for 22 is a series of 22 investing/trading highlights from FIFA 21, 1 posted each day over the course of September leading up to the FIFA 22 web app release on September 22nd. Reviewing these will help aspiring FIFA traders learn about the ins and outs of the FUT market and remind veterans of what they already know. Below is a list of the investments we have looked at already.

  1. Luis Suarez (October 8th, 2020)
  2. TOTS Barnes (April 29th, 2021)

Bought for: XBOX 480k PS4 480k PC 480k

Highest price:Β XBOX 840k PS4 905k PC 905k

Profit:Β XBOX 318k PS4 380k PC 380k

ROI:Β XBOX 66% PS4 79% PC 79%

Reasoning for Investment:Β Community TOTS always kicks off the TOTS promo, followed one week later by the PL TOTS. FIFA players can’t resist but to try out these new cards, particularly early in the promo as the TOTS cards are substantially better than anything else (aside from TOTY).

The timing of these initial TOTS releases creates a perfect storm. Community TOTS goes out of packs, PL TOTS goes into packs, and everyone looks to create their new PL squad. In FIFA 21, Barnes was a part of Community TOTS, and his price exploded as people incorporated the recently OOP card into their new Premier League teams.

This investment wasn’t unique to FIFA 21, either. Joe Gomez was a part of Community TOTS in FIFA 20, and he skyrocketed as people paired him up with PL TOTS cards (which was stocked with Liverpool players). John Stones from FIFA 19 was another example.

Cheers,
Chief
