Player Review: Gold Kevin De Bruyne
Hey everyone,
It’s already time for another review. This time I let you vote on who you wanted see featured in this review. The options were Kevin De Bruyne’s and Son Heung-Min’s gold cards. For a long time it looked like KDB was going to take the easy win, but when I woke up this morning it was really close. When I wanted to start writing it was actually tied at 18-18. I had to wait a bit longer untill the tie was broken and I must say I’m happy with the result. Considering that Kevin De Bruyne was way in the lead all weekend I pretty much thought out the review in my head already.
Review
I first got Kevin when he was my CAM behind Ben Yedder’s first In Form and regular Son. Later I brought in Neymar, because Yedder wasn’t really doing it for me. However this meant I couldn’t move to KDB’s 94 IF as planned. So I stuck with the gold who was performing excellent for me already. Sadly I don’t have a nice picture of the original squad I used him in, but it was basicly the same as below, but with Yedder over Neymar and Kimpembe over Marquinhos.
- Positions played: CAM in 352 and 4231 and CM in 532
- Chemistry Style: Sniper
- Games Played: 38
- Goals/Assists: 33/18
- Game mode: Rivals
Squad used in
Shooting & Passing
If the top corner was Mars, Elon musk could scrap all his rockets and just bring in De Bruyne. He’ll shoot anyone to Mars with the speed of light. The Belgian has an amazing shot, which of course has a lot to do with the Sniper chem style. 33 goals from the CAM/CM positions is incredible. However I must add a tad of realism. There were times where I thought: “You should have made that”. This didn’t happen often, but it did seem to happen when I really needed that goal. The majority of his goals game from matches where everything seemed to work. That’s why I am not calling this card a game changer.
Looking at the stats you might think that the amount of assists is a bit low for a CAM. I would agree with you, but in reality it was far more fun to just find space and shoot instead of giving the assist. His passing is everything you expect from a card like this. If you position yourself right and see a gap. He’ll get it to his teammate. The 5* WF makes this even easier of course. The lack of assist also had a bit to do with Neymar and his crazy amount of assists.
- Shooting: 9.4/10
- Passing: 9.3/10
Pace & Dribbling
One thing this card lacks when you look at it for the first time is pace. I considered the Engine chem style, but in the end I wanted to boost his shooting more than I wanted to boost his pace. In game it is no less true. He lacks some pace, there were times when I wished I tried the Engine chem. When he was running in behind, for example, and got caught up by defenders. His dribbling isn’t the most spectacular either. He has 4* skills which I find very important, but his balance and agility is on the low side. Which is why I went with the Sniper chem. It does the job though. He is able to outplay defenders and create space for a pass or a shot.
- Pace: 6/10
- Dribbling: 7.5/10
Physical and Defending
This is another part about Kevin that I really enjoyed. He is strong, way stronger than his 74 strength suggests. He managed to hold off defenders without too much effort. You shouldn’t worry about his stamina either. Not once did I feel the need to sub him off. As I played him as CM in 532 as well I really noticed his defensive abilities. Which were quite a bit better than his stats suggest. He is able to make a tackle, intercepts more than your average CAM and is often found in the right position. I am not saying you should play him CDM, but he is perfectly able to fit in the CM role.
- Physical: 8/10
- Defending: 6.8/10
Rating: 9/10
In the end I had so much fun with this card. I love the down to earth Belgian in real life and I love him in game. Him, Neymar and Son made a perfect little triangle up top. All of them were capable of scoring goals and Neymar and KDB delivered the assists. If you’re looking for a CAM, this is your man. I can only dream of what his improved versions deliver. I have a hunch I’ll be trying his 94 soon enough.
Value for coins:
~150k for a CAM like this is a great deal. I don’t think there is another CAM in that price range that comes close. If he doesn’t get a TOTY he will stay in packs, which could give you an oppertunity to snipe him during one of the upcoming lightning rounds.
I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. See you next time,

CR7 is not in TOTY, but he had a stellar performance today with 3 goals and 1 assist.
What do you think this means for his gold card? Currently at <800K
I don’t think being out of packs would effect it too much, to be honest. My guess is this is the bottom of the market for the relative future, though.
