Player Review: Moments Sané

Hey folks,

Once again I bit the bullet so that you don’t have to (yet) and completed Moments Leroy Sané. He looked amazing and I was considering doing him anyway, but after I let you guys vote it was set. I had some decent fodder left so I managed to complete him for 350k, which is pretty decent for a card that looks like this. I was anxious to try him out. This is also the first time I changed formation from the 352 since I’ve started reviewing for Chief (early January) as it doesn’t feel as effective since the most recent patch. I tried him in 4222 and 4231 and by the looks of it you’ll see these formations more frequently.

Review

I haven’t tried any version of Sané this year nor last year. In FIFA 18 he was my favorite LF in 4321, but that is such a long time ago. So I had no idea what I could expect, but his stats looked like a dream. I was a bit worried about his 3* WF, but ever since using Bernardo I am less hesitant on anything less than 4*. I just hoped he could utilize his dribbling, like Bernardo does, to make you forget he even has a WF.

Shooting & Passing 

14 goals and 9 assists isn’t that bad, but I felt like he had so much more in him. I just couldn’t get it out, since I was struggling with the gameplay post patch and adjusting to the formations. There were matches where I could not create anything at all and in the end I feel like if I’d use him now, since I’ve adjusted to everything, I’d easily get a 1:1 goal per games ratio out of him. He felt so clinical with his left and I reckon the +5 Composure from the Sniper chem had a part in this. Normally I don’t feel secure in front of goal with cards that have 85 Composure. His passing is more than decent – I hardly ever felt like he didn’t live up to the stats. One thing I’d suggest, though, is to refrain from lobbed through balls. His 70 Long Passing really let me down every time I tried it. The saddest part is that his 3* WF really felt like a 3* and didn’t bring me anything special as I had hoped.

Pace & Dribbling

This is the biggest let down of this card. He just didn’t feel like 99 Pace to me. Time and time again he was tracked down by supposedly slower wingbacks. It might have to do with his body type or perhaps his hair creating too much drag, but he didn’t feel anything near as fast as other 99 Pace cards I have used. Even Figo, who I played on the other side, felt faster with 95 Pace (Engine chem applied). His dribbling is much better, but here he definitely got held back by his physique. The Sniper chemistry style boosted his Agility to the max, but he doesn’t feel as agile as smaller cards with the same Agility. That being said, he isn’t slow by any means, and his proficient dribbling and 4* skills really help to get around and away from opponents. I had just expected more.

Physical and Defending

Where his physique might have held him back in the previous categories, it definitely helps here. His 79 Strength and his tall body really helped when he faced some of the stronger defenders, and he was able to stand his ground. The fact that he has 88 Stamina means he’ll last all game. He even managed to score a header, which rarely happens for me. Other than that there isn’t much more to say – his stats tell you everything you need to know.

A good card, yes, but sadly not an end game card. I really expected more, but perhaps I was expecting too much. An 8.7 really isn’t a bad rating, but for me it kinda feels like it is. I guess the FIFA 18 nostalgia got the better of me. He is fast, strong, clinical and dribbles well, but everything could be a bit better.

Value for coins:

He cost me about 350k, and for that money he’ll last as a supersub all year long. However, if you are on a tighter budget than me I’d stay away. I reckon there will be better, less expensive cards sooner rather than later.
